World Voice Day is celebrated on April 16 of every year and it is a global campaign to celebrate the power of the human voice. Voice day was first celebrated in Brazil in 1999 and later in 2002 it came to be known as ‘World Voice Day’. Every year there is a theme attached and this year it is ‘Caring for our voices’. It is important for us to care for our voice since our voice is our identity, our expression, our emotion and in most of our cases our livelihood. For many in Bengaluru—teachers, singers, and corporate leaders—this week is also a wake-up call. In a city like Bengaluru, powered by communication and creativity, voice plays a central role in everyday life. Yet many people ignore early signs due to lack of awareness or lack of facilities. If you’ve been ignoring that slight rasp or that constant effort to be heard, you aren’t just “tired”; you might be one of thousands in our city suffering from undiagnosed vocal strain.
The Shift in Bengaluru’s Healthcare
Historically, Bengaluru has treated “throat issues” as a subset of general ENT. However, 2026 is the year of the Sub-specialist. Patients are no longer satisfied with just “rest and steam.” They want to know why their voice is failing. A specialized Voice care center is the place where you can get all your questions answered. With advanced equipment like Stroboscope you can visualize your vocal cords in slow motion, just like the third umpire uses slow motion to decide ‘Run out’s ‘ in cricket and give an accurate diagnosis.
What is a ‘Voice clinic ‘?
As a Laryngologist trained at UAB in the USA, I’ve seen how integrated “Voice Labs” transform outcomes. At Kushaan ENT & Voice Clinic, we celebrate World Voice Day by offering what we call The Comprehensive Voice Audit.
Using Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) and Stroboscopy, we look beyond the surface. We check for:
- Micro-vascular changes: Early signs of strain or reflux.
- Mucosal Wave health: The secret to a “rich” and flexible singing voice.
- Neurological Coordination: Ensuring your vocal cords close with millisecond precision.
Why Teachers and CXOs are the ‘Athletes’ of the Voice
In my US training, we treated professional singers like elite athletes. I apply that same philosophy to Bengaluru’s educators and corporate executives. If you speak for 6 hours a day, you are a Vocal Athlete.
This World Voice Day, my advice is simple: Don’t wait for total voice loss (Aphonia). A 15-minute specialized check-up can prevent a 6-month surgical recovery. You voice is not just a tool to communicate. It is your identity. ‘Do not ignore your voice. Listen to it; Protect it; And empower it.
As a boon to Voice users in Benagluru we also launched a state of the art ‘Swara Voice clinic’ at Fortis Hospital Bannerughatta Road.
